Glyph Description Sound Description
Egyptian Vulture Usually pronounced as "Ah" as in hot. The real value of the sound is uncertain. Perhaps a kind of 'l' or 'r'.
Reed Usually pronounced as "ee" as eat, though it is often the case that this character was not really pronounced.
Reed Doubled Pronounced as "y" as in yellow.
Arm Usually pronounced as "Ah" as in hot, however the real value of the sound was likely a kind of 'r' sounded out deep in the throat as in today's French.
Quail Chick Usually oronounced as "w" as in wet, though sometimes pronounced as "oo" as in moon.
Foot "b" as in bee.
Stool "p" as in pea.
Horned Viper "f" as in feet.
Owl "m" as in moon.
Ripple of Water "n" as in noon.
Mouth Sharp "r" sound almost like a "d" as in Portuguese "areia" or Spanish "pero".
Reed Shelter "h" as in hound.
Wick "h" sound made deep in the throat similar to the Portuguese "rr" sound.
Placenta A kind of "kh" sound like the ch in "loch" or the greman "ach".
Animal's Belly Like the preceding sound except followed by a "y" sound. Kind of a "khy".
Doorbolt "s" sound for all practical purposes and often used as such, however this sound was once separate and distinct, which is important to be aware of.
Folded Cloth "s" sound.
Basin "sh" sound.
Sandy Slope "q" sound or a "k" sound made deep in the throat.
Basket With Handle "k" sound.
Jar Stand "g" sound, as in "get".
Flat Loaf Of Bread "t" sound.
Hobble "ty" sound. More easily approximated as a "ch" sound.
Hand "d" sound, though probably actually a kind of "t" sound.
Cobra Same as the preceding sound with a "y" as in "dy". More easily approximated as a "j" sound.
