Gay Marriage

We at The Shtick hold that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, that the primary purpose of marriage is the establishment of the family structure within society, and that the purpose of family is to raise children to be responsible members of society, to teach them, and to protect them. Secondarily marriage aids the partners in growing together through their shared toils, responsabilities, and trials.

The purpose of marriage is not to be found in the satisfying of sexual apetites. The purpose of marriage is not to be found in what we may consider "natural" or "unnatural", nor is the purpose of marriage to provide any sort of legal convenience.

To the contrary, the legal convenience of marriage is simply a means which our society employs to promote a union which is already very difficult, because it is a union that is very valuable, both to the man and woman involved, and to society. The setting up of non-family centered unions as legal equivalents of marriage translates directly into the debasing of marriage and family, which ought to hold a distinguished place in our society.

Marriage and family deserve a place on our society's pedestal.
