Given the tendency towards moral relativism generally seen in society's view of pornography we, (The Shtick) feel it necessary to make public declaration of our view on the matter.
By moral relativism as it applies to pornography we mean that there are many who will claim that since (as they believe) what is deemed pornography is determined by cultural circumstance, the reality of pornography must therefore be transitory rather then transcendental. In other words, the moral relativists will have us believe that pornography is only a figment of our imaginations and has no reality beyond our culturally programed taboo structure.
Far from it is the truth. We declare that pornography does indeed transcend culture that it is more permanantly a definite concept than is the culture which does deal with it.
We shall save the lecture on the faults in moral relativism for another time. Here it is our purpose to give form and reason to our policy of not permitting pornography on this site and not in any way openly supporting it.
We do not believe that pornographic material is altogether harmless. We believe that it is addictive, pernicious, and unwholesome, that much like drugs, gambling, and lying it has the tendency to destroy lives and leads to much more serious misbehaviors. We do not believe that "art" is a justification for pornographic material.
In large part the role of pornography is to degrade man's sense of himself down to the animal level; it denies self control; and we hold that any individual, who claims to hold the integrity of the family, the value of womanhood, or self control in high regard and does not seriously shun pornography, is a hipocrite, for pornography denies all these things.
To embrace pornography is to make human beings into mere objects of selfish pleasure. Those who view pornography debase themselves and those who promote pornography debase humanity. There is no place for it pictorally or verbally on The Shtick where we hope that what influence we may have is for the betterment of humanity.
